FREE | Master Quality Control Checklist | Commercial Printing
Hi folks… I want to share a FREE document with all of you commercial printers out there—especially, those companies struggling with waste due to errors. This document is the actual Master Quality Control Checklist we used in the commercial printing company I founded in Nashville, Tennessee in 1988.
NOTE: Any type business should look at this Master Control Checklist and consider developing a similar one for their products OR service. EVERY BUSINESS NEED THIS!
This Master Quality Control Checklist, along with countless updates, was years in development—the most crucial document in our quality control system. If you were to build a similar document from scratch, one with this scope and detail, it would also take you years. At this point, most of the work is done for you!

Thousands of Dollars Saved
With years of experience, working in, and communicating with, commercial printing companies, we determined that the waste ratio in those companies is anywhere from 5 to 7% of total sales. In fact, we’ve seen waste as high at 10%.
Imagine a company doing two million dollars ($2,000,000) in sales, and having a 5% waste ratio; that adds up to One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000). Given that, if that company reduced their waste to just 2%, that would add Sixty Thousand Dollars ($60,000) to their bottom-line. That, my friend, is serious cash!
To be truthful, when I first started getting a handle on quality control, we had no idea how much waste we had, until we started tracking it. I was embarrassed to realize, it was over 7%. For this reason, I decided to implement a Quality Control System, with this Master Quality Control Checklist as the centerpiece. Once our QC system was in place, we reduced waste from 7% to an average of 2% each year, and sustained that low ratio for over fifteen years. In fact, there were many months, our waste ratio was less than 1%. It worked, and we turned naysayers into real believers!
The Benefits of Cutting Waste | More Than Saving Money!
The main benefit of implementing a Quality Control System was the peace and order it brought to our printing company. We all but eliminated the stress of reworking jobs, which causes employees to feel things are out of control.
As many of you know, I’ve been blogging about and touting systems for years. You may have heard about my book, System Busters: How to Stop Them in Your Business—where, in one chapter, we chronicled our Quality Control system implementation.
Things to Know About the Master Quality Control Checklist
It’s a PDF Document. We printed this two-sided Master Quality Control Checklist on a White 10 x 15 Catalog Envelope in Red Ink. This became our Job Jacket that held crucial job material.
